O’FALLON, Mo. (March 23, 2007) — The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League announced today that its upcoming event in Montgomery, Ala., will be known as the inaugural SHELOR.com Spring Drags. The second of eight events on the 2007 ADRL schedule, will be contested from April 13-15 at Montgomery Motorsports Park. SHELOR.com is the official website for SHELOR Motor Mile, the volume automotive store of southwestern Virginia.
The Spring Drags will serve as the replacement event for the SpeedTech Winter Drags, which were cancelled as a result of inclement weather in February before being originally rescheduled for the April 13-15 dates. With today’s announcement, though, the ADRL has effectively “retired” the Winter Drags name and its traditional early season dates.
“After fighting the weather in February for three consecutive years, we have decided to close the books on the Winter Drags for now,” said ADRL President Kenny Nowling. “SpeedTech has been a great partner for the event, and they will continue to serve as a major sponsor of the ADRL. As much as we like getting an early start to our season though, pushing back the date for our opener is the best thing to do for our race teams, fans and marketing partners.”
“I am thrilled that SHELOR.com has continued to expand their presence in the ADRL,” Nowling continued. “David Hagan (SHELOR Motor Mile Co-Owner) is an incredible business man with a tremendous vision. His involvement with the ADRL has had a major impact on the series as well as me personally.”
In addition to sponsoring the Spring Drags, SHELOR Motor Mile also serves as the Official Vehicle and Official Motorhome of the ADRL. The inaugural ADRL Independence Drags will also be run at Motor Mile Dragway, A SHELOR owned facility, in Radford, Virginia July 6-7, 2007.
“The ADRL has clearly established itself as a force in drag racing,” said Hagan. “We were thrilled when it was announced Motor Mile Dragway would be hosting an ADRL national event. The official vehicle and official motorhome sponsorships were designed to give SHELOR Motor Mile and SHELOR.com a marketing presence in this growing series. Today’s announcement of the Spring Drags sponsorship will obviously increase and strengthen that presence.”
In conjunction with today’s announcement of the re-branded Winter Drags, the ADRL also announced that its 2008 season-opener will be the Dragpalooza IV event, March 7 and 8 at Houston Motorsports Park.
The inaugural Spring Drags will also include the final three rounds of Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous eliminations from the 2006 ADRL GetWorkComp.com World Finals in Kennedale, Texas. That event was halted by rain just prior to the quarterfinals of professional-class eliminations.
All Winter Drags tickets will be honored during the Spring Drags weekend. For more information, visit [ American Drag Racing League ].
