Reichert takes points lead with Norwalk win
NORWALK, Ohio - Defending NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion Bill Reichert took over the national points lead in scoring his third national win of the year during this past weekend's Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Reichert and his Rislone Engine Treatment backed team made it a clean sweep in Norwalk this season, winning both the national and divisional events held there.

Reichert, who runs the family business, Reichert Racing Engines, in Owosso, Mich., qualified his Injected Nitro Dragster fourth in the field with a 5.366 second elapsed time at 272.72 mph. In round one, he defeated Bill Evans with a 5.506 at 268.44 mph, then took out a redlighting Ken Perry in round two with a 5.416 at 268.67 mph. His scheduled semifinal opponent Marty Thacker couldn't make the call, giving Reichert a free-pass 5.320 at 272.72 mph to put him in the final.

The final round would be a rematch of the Chicago final, pitting Reichert against Australian rookie Kate Harker. The outcome was the same as Harker fouled out by .006 of a second, giving Reichert the automatic win, running a 5.366 at 269.94 mph.

"We kind of struggled this weekend," said Reichert. "We never quite nailed the tune-up. But we were able to get the breaks, which helped us get the win. On Sunday, we had two redlights and a no-show; I guess it was just our day. Once in a while it happens that way."

"We ran real good here at the divisional, and the conditions were pretty close to the same, but the car sure didn't act the same," Reichert continued. "It took us a few runs to get a handle on it, and even then, we really weren't in control of it like we would like. Nonetheless, it was good to get the win and get it at a track that Rislone and Bar's Leaks are heavily involved with like Norwalk. We won all three rounds on Sunday in the Rislone sponsored lane."

With the points lead in hand, Reichert and the Rislone Engine Treatment team's next stop will be the NHRA Division 3 event at Gateway International Raceway just outside of St. Louis. Reichert won that event last year.

"The car ran real good there last year," commented Reichert. "We're hoping to go there and run like that again, but the car ran so good last year it was almost too good to be true. This year we have another percent of alcohol to carry vs. last year. With these A/Fuelers, you never know what they are going to do until you step on the gas."
