NORWALK, Ohio - Defending NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion Bill Reichert kicked off the Division 3 season with a win during this past weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Reichert dominated the weekend in his Rislone Engine Treatment/Bar's Leaks sponsored A/Fueler, qualifying No. 1 and resetting both ends of the track record en route to his win.
Reichert, who runs the family business Reichert Racing Engines in Owosso, Mich., took the pole for the event with a 5.321 second elapsed time at 266.37 mph. In round one, he took out Paul Fishburn with a 5.359 at 261.93 mph, then defeated Dave Hirata with a track record 5.256 at 274.33 mph in the semifinals.
Reichert's final round opponent would be fellow Michigan native Dave Hedges' blown alcohol entry. Reichert once again dipped into the 5.20's with a 5.268 at 275.73 mph to reset the track mph record and take the win.
"It was a real good weekend for us," said Reichert. "I think it helped us that we had run at this track before. We have match raced there at their Fourth of July race the past few years. I knew how good the track could be and it was as usual. The track is really good, just like Chicago is."
Reichert was also pleased with the car's performance after NHRA had dropped the nitro percentage from 97% to 96%.
"We're very pleased with the car's performance," stated Reichert. "The car did good, but we had really good air all weekend. The temperature stayed in the 60's and even dipped into the 50's a few rounds. So that really helped."
The next stop for the Rislone Engine Treatment backed team will be in Reading, Pa., for this weekend's Division 1 LODRS event there.
