VALDOSTA, Ga. (May 2, 2007) - The only sure thing about the Pro Nitrous competition at this weekend's Camp Motorsport Georgia Drags is that there are no sure things.
Entering Friday and Saturday's race at South Georgia Motorsports Park, the third of eight events on the 2007 Flowmaster American Drag Racing League schedule, the Pro Nitrous class has compiled a streak of eight different winners in its last eight completed events. Adding another layer of statistical improbability, the 16 available finalists' spots in those eight events have been filled by 15 different drivers, with only 2006 ADRL world champion Keith Baker able to reach more than one final in that span.
Beginning with a single qualifying run Friday night, fans of what is arguably the most wide-open class in all of professional drag racing will be able to see if the Pro Nitrous class' amazing run of parity will continue or if one of the class' heavy hitters - such as Baker, four-time ADRL event winner Shannon Jenkins, or 2006 Valdosta winner Harold Martin - will emerge to add another event win to their total. Following Friday's lone qualifier, the Pro Nitrous contingent will get two more chances on Saturday (noon and 2 p.m. local time) to reach the 16-car eliminations field. Eliminations are set to begin at 7 p.m.Saturday.
Also Saturday, Martin and Terry Housley are scheduled to complete their final-round matchup from the rain-delayed 2006 ADRL World Finals. That head-to-head showdown is scheduled for the third round of qualifying at the Georgia Drags.
