Marshall eyes success in second Jegs All-Stars berth

JOLIET, Ill. – For NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Chris Marshall, it has been an all or nothing kind of year. Marshall and his Disturbed Racing Team scored their second career national event victory earlier in the year at the Denso Spark Plugs Four Wide Nationals in Las Vegas only to bow out in the first round at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Western Regional in Vegas the following weekend. Armed with a fast race car and some strong performances at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago, Marshall and team hope to double up at this weekend’s Route 66 Nationals and Jegs Sportsman All-Star event.

Marshall, who runs Marshall’s Paint & Body in McMinnville, Ore., has experienced his share of highs and lows at Route 66. Last year he was the No. 1 qualifier, only to have broken blower studs end his weekend in the first round. In 2017, Marshall reached the final of the Jegs All-Star event and was ahead until the parachute deployed early at the 1000’ mark. A broken throttle cable ended his day in the first round of the race the next day.

“We’re feeling good coming off the win at the Vegas national,” said Marshall. “We’ve had some good luck and bad luck here, but now I’m ready to beat this track. It’s gotten to me, but our Miner Brothers powered car runs well here. We were number one qualifier here last year but had a mishap in the first round.”

“This is our second time to run the Jegs All-Stars, but the last time we ran it, we were here as an alternate,” Marshall continued. “This time we earned the spot, so we are excited about that. Hopefully we can finish the deal and get the win. We would love to reward Boost Performance Products, Davison Auto Parts, Tim the Tool Man with Snap-On and Boertje Trucking for their continued support of Disturbed Racing Team.”

The Jegs Sportsman All-Stars is a race within a race at the Route 66 Nationals. The top two points earners from each of NHRA’s four geographical regions square off for the coveted Jegs All-Stars trophy and $7000 pay day. Jegs also offers a double up bonus of $7000 if a competitor wins both the All-Star event and the Route 66 Nationals.
