POMONA EVENT POSTPONED TO LATER DATE, RACING CONTINUES IN LAS VEGAS

GLENDORA, Calif. (March 16, 2021) – NHRA officials announced today the postponement of the 61st annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, originally scheduled for April 9-11.

NHRA and track officials will continue to look to state and federal health officials for recommendations to host events in California. A new date for the event is to be determined.

“We are confident we will find a new date for the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals,” said Kasey Coler, NHRA Vice President of Track Management & Operations. “We are working closely with California health officials to come to an agreement as to the best dates for the event.”

The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season kicked off with a successful race at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville. The season will continue racing action at the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 16-18. NHRA officials are confident the season will consist of 22 national events.

Although racing is paused at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, the track is currently serving as a COVID-19 vaccination site, allowing locals to drive through the facility and receive their vaccination.

In 2001, the NHRA was celebrating it's 50th anniversary and they ran a one off 50th anniversary race in Pomona during the July 4th weekend.

Let's see how quickly this turns into a political post? :(
And why shouldn't it? The reasons for this race being postponed indefinitely are 100% based on CA having been transformed by voters into a Democrat-controlled Blue state with a Super-Majority Democrat Legislature over the last decade or so. Wal-Mart, Casa Depot, Costco, etc are jammed with thousands of people almost since the so-called lock down started because they are "essential", doncha know. The last few months, swap meets in CA are open with thousands of people attending all week long. No problem there whatsoever. And we still can't have weddings or attend sporting events except with a minuscule # of people? Are you kidding me? This is what happens when your elected politicians start telling you how to live your life, instead of letting you decide if you feel comfortable attending these events or not.

Seems the Gatornationals had decent attendance, with mask-wearing optional, and the whole weekend went just fine. This in a state with a very good Republican Governor who has the balls to let people decide for themselves what they want to do. That is not how we do things here in the "Nanny State" of CA.

So the big question is will the rescheduled 61st Winternationals now be known as the NHRA's 70th Anniversary 61st "winter"Summernationals presented by Lucas Oil?
