PMRA set to open 2007 Tour at Toronto Motorsports Park
Large number of Pro Modified teams expected to compete in round one

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 4, 2007) – The Pro Modified Racing Association will begin its third year of operation at the track where it held its first event.

The Victoria Day Weekend PMRA Challenge at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario will be held May 19-20, and promises to provide a large field of PMRA Pro Modified competitors.

“We got several new teams this year,” stated PMRA Director of Operations Bruce F. Mehlenbacher. “We’ve also got new cars for some of our established members, and a terrific points fund for all teams in 2007. This year should be a banner year for the PMRA.”

The first PMRA race was held May 21, 2005, and 13 of the best Pro Modifieds in Ontario and New York made the trip to TMP. Pro Modified ace Al Billes of Barrie, ON, driving for Jim Oddy paced the field with number one qualifier, but close behind him were Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, ON, and Lancaster, NY’s Mike Janis.

As the eliminations progressed, Janis was out in the first round, and Billes and Spiering rolled up for the final in the damp Southern Ontario night.

Both cars were strong off the line, but Billes succumbed to tire shake, and Spiering, with a 6.33-second, 225.41-mph pass, motored to his first, and the series first, winning race.

A large turnout of Pro Modifieds is expected for the first PMRA tour stop. There will be two sessions of qualifying on Saturday, May 19. A final qualifying round will take place Sunday, May 20, along with the eliminations.

Joining the PMRA at Toronto Motorsports Park will be the CAN-AM Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-roots drag series which features competitors from Ontario and Michigan, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season. The participants, known for their awesome wheelies, are fan favorites wherever they appear.

Now in its third year of operation, The Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), Pro Modified Racing Association, has enjoyed strong fan popularity and will present some of the best in Pro Modified racing for 2007.

The PMRA will travel to several drag strips in 2007, including two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park, Lancaster Raceway Park in New York State, Sanair in Quebec, and the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.

In 2006, the tour was a great success, and during the past two seasons of the PMRA, each event finished with a different winner. Joe Boniferro and Kasey Janzen tied in points last year and were crowned co-champions over the other Ontario, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania teams. Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, a division of Ashland Inc., Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated will sponsor the PMRA point series in 2007.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association started late in 2004 and is entering its third year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization, with technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and volatile classes, offering a diverse group of racecars with different types of 2,000-horsepower engines. Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
