Del Worsham may have saved his best lap for last, here in Richmond, and appeared to be on his way to a solid improvement over his 4.858 from Friday night, when his pipes went wet and his run ended early during Q4. Later analysis confirmed a pair of sheared blower studs were the culprits, and Worsham will enter eliminations from the 9th spot. He will face Gary Scelzi in round one.
"It was hauling, on a really good lap, but these things happen from time to time, so I'm not going to sweat it," Worsham said. "The lanes seem pretty equal, at least to this point, and the only thing we miss out on is picking our pair. Now that we're ninth and Gary is eighth, all we get is the last pairing that's left anyway, and that's almost always the final pair.
"We know the car will run well, and I'm pretty excited about getting it on tomorrow. It will be a great race, racing Gary, and I hope we can just come out and go A-to-B and get the light. It would have been nice to move up the sheet on that last one, but we've still got the same car and I don't see any reason why it won't run hard tomorrow. We'll just try to make the most of it, and we'll get our noses into this Countdown deal. I know it will seem like round one will mean more to Gary and his team, but I don't think so. We're here to win the race, so round one means everything to us, too."
