One day down, two to go for Coughlin

PHOENIX (Feb. 23) -- In Super Stock, Coughlin picked up right where he left off two weeks ago at the season opener in Pomona, Calif., qualifying a lofty fourth on Phoenix's elimination ladder with a best pass of 8.840 seconds at 153.77 mph in his JEGS.com Chevrolet Cavalier. Showing the same consistency he displayed in So-Cal, Coughlin also posted an 8.863 at 155.6mph on the day. He will have an opportunity to improve his position tomorrow morning.

"Once again the car is very consistent, which is extremely encouraging," Coughlin said. "We start early Saturday with class eliminations, which still counts towards qualifying. We have one guy to race there and it appears we have him covered, but we'll have to be on our game to get past him. Then we'll get set for eliminations and go from there. It would be very exciting to take two Super Stock trophies home this weekend."

In Pro Stock, Coughlin went into the second of two scheduled qualifying sessions today sitting on the outside looking in. The two-time Pro Stock champion rose under pressure to post a 6.6672 at 207.50 mph. The run was good enough to move him from the No. 24 position all the way up to the No. 6spot.

"We are looking to pick up right where we left off tomorrow," Coughlin stated. "This Slammers Ultimate Milk team has what it takes to get the job done this weekend."
