JOLIET, Ill. - Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Sean O'Bannon and the Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV's team will be looking for another strong showing during this weekend's Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway just outside Chicago. O'Bannon wheeled the Jack O'Bannon Racing 2007 Dodge Charger to a semifinal finish during last weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kan., and hopes to build on that momentum this weekend in Chicago.
O'Bannon, 28, of Fontana, Calif., hopes to continue making forward progress during this weekend's event. The Sam Shockley lead team feels ignition problems hampered their progress last weekend. The team will also have the focus of their team mate Alexis De Joria's Crew Chief Randy Anderson, as De Joria will not be able to compete this weekend due to personal matters at home.
"We're certainly going to miss having Alexis with us this weekend as a teammate, but she has some matters at home she has to attend to and will be unable to make the race this weekend," said O'Bannon. "We're very excited about the weekend. Sam just keeps making the car faster every run. Having Randy there as an extra eye is just an added bonus. Hopefully we can continue to make steps forward and make another good showing for Tequila Patrón and Forest River RV's."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final qualifying session Saturday morning. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
