Northwest Nationals cancelled (1 Viewer)

I just got an email from Pacific Raceways saying that the Northwest Nationals have been cancelled. This is because King County told them they would not be at the necessary "phase" by the time the event is scheduled. This is just so sad. This is a FAMILY owned business that relies on this event to make any profit at all, making it that much more alarming. And they gave me the amazing option of rolling my already purchased tickets (I have had the same seats since 1989) over to next year (which I have done), or getting a refund (when funds become available). WOW. Pacific Raceways my not be of Bruton Smith caliber, but the family that owns it has stuck with it for 60 years, and kept it a racetrack despite offers for the contrary. Hats off to Pacific Raceways. They are a class act.

NHRA NORTHWEST NATIONALS CANCELED DUE TO STATE AND COUNTY RESTRICTIONS

GLENDORA, Calif. - The Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals, originally scheduled for July 31–Aug. 2 outside of Seattle, has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions in Washington state and King County that would not allow fans to attend the event. NHRA made this difficult decision after exhaustive deliberation with track officials, local, state and national health officials and government authorities.

For the event to proceed with fans in attendance, King County, where the track is located, would need to reach Phase 4 of Washington’s reopening plan. As of today, King County is still in Phase 2 and with the time required before moving into subsequent phases, it would be very unlikely, if not impossible, to arrive at Phase 4 in time for the rescheduled 2020 event.

“NHRA has hosted national events at Pacific Raceways for 38 years, including the last 32 straight,” said John Ramsey, Pacific Raceways General Manager. “As hard as it is to cancel the race, the health and safety of our fans, competitors and staff of is the utmost importance to us. The bright side is we now turn our focus to next year and look forward to seeing the fans back as we celebrate the 33rd Annual Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals in 2021.”

Event ticket holders will receive more information from Pacific Raceways via email soon and are encouraged to visit pacificraceways.com to learn about their options.

I am scratching my head about the Gators as FL was first to get it, first to reopen, and word is now that they jumped the gun...

I have a feeling this may mot be the last drag strip that cannot hold a National Event this year.
I hope I am wrong.

Let's just hope that this is not financial ruin for any track that loses their event .

viruses have a life. they weaken. they die out. this one should be on it's way out for good by july/august.......but wait, it's an election year  seriously cross your fingers for
nhra national events happening. if certain states are run by certain political folk, and they have the option to shut down an upcoming nat. event, the odds are good that they will; and it has
little or nothing to do with the virus, they are following a narrative to stifle business......i thought we were past this, but as soon as the BLM stuff ran it's course, the main stream has
piled on with the virus as if it had just started, who are again following a prescribed narrative.......don't want to sound political, but this ch*t is as political as it gets

I have tickets to this year's Indy 500. Obviously, I wasn't in Indy last May. I'm not gonna hold my breath that the planned August reschedule is gonna happen either. They've dangled a possible October date "Just in case."

The virus is not over or even slowing down. We are seeing fewer deaths but in the last week and every day this week the positive virus cases have increased at a faster daily rate since it started. Arizona, Nevada, Florida, California and 30 other states are seeing spikes in virus cases. 98% of available hospital beds in Arizona are filled due to the virus, Nevada is looking at backing off on casino openings and Disneyland in California that announced they would be reopening July 17 and had started bringing workers back has postponed reopening indefinitely. The virus has not slowed down. Look at the NHRA notice on the Washington race on Competition Plus then look at Susan Wades comments. Her comments have nothing to do with the race cancellation.

I'll bet that there's going to be quite a few more races cancelled this summer as the virus rages on. It will be interesting to see how the Indy races work out.

The Arizona Republic headline this morning is Gov Ducey: Arizonans should stay home. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Just to be defiant, I'm gonna go out in the driveway & walk around without a mask. Humph.......

what is the true infection rate. If 10,000 people die out of 100,000 infections, that means the virus kills 10 percent of all the people it infects – making it very dangerous. But if 10,000 people die from 10 million infections, the death rate is actually 0.1 percent .... similar to the flu. if we are now testing at a much higher capacity, then there is a high probability that we will definitley see a spike in confirmed positive tests. science vs. politics.
