Zizzo's car did not move forward when it was time to stage and he shut it off. Foley made a very nice run to take "Last Man Standing" away from Troxel and bump the track ET record down a little further. However, he also went a bit long and nosed into the pea gravel.
Hang on - it's not over yet. As it turns out, Zizzo was shut off because water came out into his lane from the starter's stand in the center of the track. Since it was not his problem that caused the shutdown order, he will take the car back and service it, then come back and make his final qualifying run

10:09 p.m. The crew did a good job of turning the car around quickly, but the run only lasted about 100 feet, Zizzo losing traction and coasting through.

The IHRA crew made amends by giving us the cooler, just to bad it wasn't full of cold adult beverages.

I'm sure everyone will have fun with this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The cooler is the one that sits inside the starter's safety box, holding cold beverages for the starting line crew. The vibrations from the nitro cars shook the drain spout open and the water ran out into the left lane. At first they thought the fluid came from Zizzo's car, did not realize it came from the cooler until too late.

9:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 80 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 2,273 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

There was another miss-firing "Cremora Bomb" while T.J. Zizzo and Dale Creasy Jr. were doing their burnouts. They were shut off and sent back to their pits for servicing, and the track had to be cleaned again. This could be viewed as a blessing in disguise as Creasy's crew found some problems with the front end of the car as they were moving it back to the pits.

And then there were two...669 cars came here to race this weekend and these two were the last pair standing, Mother Nature giving the IHRA racers and fans a break for a change.

Zizzo was consistent all weekend, only his first-round run outside the four-second zone. Foley, by contrast, struggled all day today, but managed to get this far anyway. But Foley's luck ran out here, Zizzo was once again solidly consistent, right down the groove with a smooth pass, while Foley once again lost traction before half track. It was a weekend of firsts for Zizzo - first #1 qualifier, first low ET of the event, and first event win. Congratulations to one of the up-and-coming teams in Top Fuel for a fine performance this weekend - and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a wrap.


Seems we have luck of all sorts at Martin, some good, some really, really strange
 
We think it's built on an Indian burial ground - Bryan Epps (photographer) has blown the engine in his golf cart two years in a row at Martin, for example. I can't remember another event with as many oildowns as we had this year - and by cars that usually don't do that kind of thing. When's the last time you saw Millican go red or J.R. Todd smoke the tires at the hit? Lots of unusual stuff this year - but all-in-all, a pretty good weekend anyway.
