READING, Penn., (Aug. 13, 2007) - The Stanley Works, a worldwide leader of tool manufacturing and the parent company of Mac Tools, along with Kalitta Motorsports, have teamed up to bring a bold, new look to the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series on the quarter-mile drag strip at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania, Aug. 16-19.
A special, one-time-only paint scheme will adorn the 8,000-horsepower, 330-mph, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragster driven by Top Fuel ace Doug Kalitta at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals. The expressive decorations on the quick machine employ a classic hot rodding, flat black base combined with a modern, faster style with its hard-edged and reflective bright yellow and fluorescent red accents.
"It looks really racy," Kalitta, a 42-year old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., said. "I like the contrast of colors and the combination of the matte and glossy finishes. It looks fast and I'm sure NHRA fans have never seen anything quite like it.
"It's a pleasure for us, through our great partnership with Mac Tools, to bring our new Stanley car to the NHRA drag racing fans at Maple Grove Raceway and to motorsports fans around the globe."
"We look forward to getting the Stanley name in front of millions of loyal NHRA fans," Scott Bannell, Vice President of Brand Marketing for Stanley said of the brand exposure from this paint scheme. Stanley Tools, based in New Britain, Connecticut, is located about four hours northeast of Reading.
Since winning the NHRA's equivalent of Rookie of the Year, the Automobile Club of Southern California's Road to the Future Award after the 1998 drag racing season, Kalitta has driven his dragster to 29 Top Fuel national event titles, which already ties him for sixth in career wins for the sport's quickest and fastest class. In the past four NHRA seasons, Kalitta has solidified his place among the best Top Fuel pilots of all-time. Last season was arguably the best of his straight-line career. He won a career-high five national events in 2006 and led the POWERade points for almost the entire second half of the season. After finishing just 14 points shy of his first NHRA championship, Kalitta garnered his third career runner-up points finish in 2006. He was also points runner-up in 2003 and 2004.
The Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals begins Friday, August 17, for the Top Fuel class with one qualifying session at 4:00 p.m. (ET), and then another qualifying session at 7:00 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions follow on Saturday at noon and 3:00 p.m. The top sixteen qualified cars will race Sunday in final eliminations beginning at 11:00 a.m.
All times and dates subject to change.
The Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals is the 17th of 23 national events in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
