NHRA Nitro Funny Car Driver Scott Kalitta Seeing Red in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. -- To repay the loyalty of three of their devoted associate sponsors, NHRA's Kalitta Motorsports is giving longtime associate sponsors Technicoat Companies, Fischer Honda, and Red Line Oil primary sponsorship signage on the normally Kalitta Air-decorated race car free of charge for one event each during the NHRA's Western Swing in Denver, Seattle, and Sonoma, Calif.

This weekend's, July 28-30, running of the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., marks the third and final event of the Western Swing and the Kalitta Motorsports Associate Sponsor Appreciation Swing. Kalitta's 7,000 horsepower, nitro-fueled flopper will be adorned with primary sponsorship for Benicia, California-based Red Line Oil for the weekend's event in Sonoma.

"I think this is a great way to reward our associate sponsors," Kalitta said. "Each one of these companies, and all of our associate sponsors, are terrific to work with, and I can't think of any that I don't consider some of the folks involved with that company to be friends with as well.

"Tim Kerrigan and Cameron Evans at Red Line Oil have been friends and supporters of Kalitta Motorsports for years. Their relationship with our whole team has been great for us and for the sport of drag racing."

Kalitta, a 43-year old resident of Palmetto, Fla., and 25-year drag racing veteran, made the switch from Top Fuel to Funny Car this season. Scott has one NHRA national event win in his career in nitro Funny Car and that was at the Houston event in 1989 while driving with a broken left foot. In Top Fuel, Scott scored two world championships (1994-1995) and 17 NHRA national event wins.

Red Line Oil joined Kalitta Motorsports in 2001. Red Line Synthetic Oil Corporation manufactures over 80 quality products, including motor oils, gear oils, assembly lubes, fuel additives, and its popular WaterWetter cooling additive for the automotive, motorcycle, marine, and industrial markets. Red Line Oil President Tim Kerrigan and Director of Marketing Cameron Evans are dedicated drag racing enthusiasts and are often seen at NHRA events cheering for all of the hot rods that utilize their products.

The Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals begins Friday, July 28, for the Funny Car class with two qualifying sessions at 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (PT). Two more qualifying sessions follow on Saturday at noon and 3:30 p.m. The top sixteen qualified cars will race Sunday in final eliminations beginning at noon.

All times and dates subject to change.

The Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals is the 15th of 23 national events in the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
