REYNOLDS, Ga. – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series kicked off today at Silver Dollar Raceway, the final Southeast Divisional race of the 2006 season. This is the last chance for many Southeast Division racers to earn crucial points toward a divisional and national championship. Comp Eliminator racer, Roger Brogdon and Super Stock driver, Robin Brown, started the competition true to form qualifying on top.
Brogdon of Tomball, Tex. , ran a pass of 8.883 seconds to lead the field in Comp Eliminator. David Eaton of Merrit Island , Fla. , drove his ’32 Bantam 6.854 seconds to qualify in the second position.
In Super Stock, Robin Brown of Madisonville , Ky. , took his '66 Chevy for a pass of 10.040 seconds at 11.30 mph to qualify in the top position. The second qualifier was Peter Biondo of Maspeth , N.Y. , who drove a '06 Cobalt.
Stock Eliminator driver David Lindsay of Ft. Pierce , Fla. , drove a '95 Cobra and qualified first with a pass of 10.846 seconds at 11.95 mph. Wayne Shaw of Douglasville , Ga. , qualified second in his '83 Malibu .
The top qualifier in the Top Sportsman category was Ronnie Davis of Suwanee , Ga. , 'who ran a pass of 6.579 seconds at 213.47 mph to qualify in the top spot. Qualifying next was Mike Gardner of Haymarket , Va. , who ran a pass of 6.798 seconds at 205.66 mph.
