NHRA ANNOUNCES REMAINDER OF 2020 MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES

ENNIS, TX (September 2, 2020) --- NHRA announced today the remainder of the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season. In collaboration with all stakeholders, NHRA plans to hold six national events to complete the 2020 season. The Texas Motorplex will be hosting the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, October 14-18 at the famed motorsports facility located just south of Dallas/Fort Worth. The track is celebrating its 35th anniversary and will be hosting a wide variety of classes and events throughout the week.

The 2020 NHRA season has looked very different due to the global pandemic. NHRA has worked closely with its partner tracks and race teams to construct a schedule that will honor its rich racing history.

“We have been racing under a special order from the Governor of the Great State of Texas since the end of May and our COVID numbers in our area are rapidly decreasing,” said Texas Motorplex owner Billy Meyer. “We are providing a variety of safety measures throughout the facility to ensure fans, racers and sponsors have a positive experience. Our number one goal is to host an exciting event from October 14-18.”

The track has also been working with NHRA officials to expand the racing offerings both during the NHRA AAA Texas FallNationals as well as the days preceding the event.

“There was never been any discussions between Texas Motorplex and NHRA about canceling or moving the FallNationals,” explained Motorplex General Manager Andy Carter. “In fact we have added the excitement of Friday Night Live to our schedule and added an additional NHRA National Open running Wednesday and Thursday making the FallNationals the biggest NHRA event of the season.”

Dates for the remaining NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series are as follows:

Sept. 3-6 Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S Nationals, Indianapolis, IN.

Sept. 25-27 Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Fla.

Oct. 2-4 Mopar Express Lane NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Pennzoil, St. Louis

Oct. 14-18 AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, Dallas

Oct. 23-25 Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil, Houston

Oct. 29-Nov. 1 Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil, Las Vegas

At the conclusion of the Dodge NHRA Finals in Las Vegas, the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will crown its four champions in each of the respective professional categories, including Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

With the elimination of the traditional Countdown to the Championship playoffs, every round of racing is crucial. Race teams will be ready to battle it out for their shot at an NHRA world championship. Fans can order tickets by visiting www.texasmotorplex.com.
