Blower/Turbo Pro Mod Class and a Track Record Falls at the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod “1320 Pro Mod Warrior Series” at Maryland International Raceway this past weekend.
(8-9-2010) Mechanicsville, MD – The Northeast Outlaw Pro Mods fourth “Extreme” Event” of the season at MIR August 7th was a huge success with huge crowds and over 25 Pro Mods contesting Eight qualifying positions in each of the two classes.
In the extreme heat of the day, with track temperatures reaching close to 140 degrees, taking the pole position on the Blower/Turbo side was Tommy Gray in his 2007 Undertaker GTO with a 6.053 ET at 240.38 MPH. This is the first race for the GTO this year after switching from the 68 Camaro and the first race since the passing of his beloved father, whom the NEOPMA dedicated this race to.
On the Nitrous side, Fredy Scriba qualified number one with a 6.023 at 237.71 in his 63’ Corvette. There were many personal bests and a track record set. Harold Martin ran a personal best 6.067 at 234.41, and Matt Deitsch ran a personal best 6.067 at 236.01, both losing efforts to the eventual finalist, but impressive none the less. Pat Musi breaks the track record of 5.955 previously held by Nitrous event winner Fredy Scriba, with an impressive 5.942 at 240.47. Both Drivers prove they can lay down the numbers.
In the Nitrous eliminations side Points leader Fredy Scriba defeated Bob Bailey in round one, 6.002 to a losing 8.926, Matt Deitsch in round two 6.002 to a close 6.067 personal best. Pat Musi defeated Charles Kelly in round one, 6.930 to a tire shaking 13.911, Harold Martin in round two, 5.942 track record to a 6.068 personal best. The finals were exciting to watch. Both teams thrashing to get the cars to the starting line as both making repairs from the semis, and matched number one qualifier and track favorite Fredy Scriba “Sorcerer” vs. new track record holder Pat Musi in “King Kong 5”. Pat was out first .051 vs. .077, but Fredy Scriba was on a killer run and took the win light with a 5.993/237.21 to a losing 7.862/125.25.
In the Blower/Turbo eliminations side, Steve King defeated Larry Plummer in round one, 7.096 to a 9.912, Andrew Parise in round two 6.009 to a tire shaking 14.091. Tommy Gray who has struggled with the 68 Camaro, brought out the 07’ GTO and drove straight to the pole position, defeated Gerry Capano (broke) in round one, 6.000 (Jerry Capano broke in the water box), Tim O’Hare round two, 6.019 to a 6.286.
Again the finals were exciting to watch. Point’s leader Steve King with a runner up finish at VMP this year vs. Tommy Gray in the “Undertaker” Pro Mod. Steve King was out first .054 vs. .062, and Steve never trailed in a very close race 6.069/237.38 to a losing 6.072/239.36
