Could someone please explain to me what is happening here. Go to Pro Record Holders the records stated here are for 1000 feet. Will the NHRA ever return to 1/4 mile racing????

Tony Schumacher set the NHRA Speed Record for Top Fuel in the 1/4 mile at 336.15 mph at the 2005 NHRA Pontiac Performance Nationals, National Trail Raceway, Ohio. He backed it up within 1%, this NHRA Speed Record still stands to this day.

I think there are about 1320 threads on this topic...

funny that if you look at 1000 foot times from late 2005/ early2006 vs. 2010, they are about the same, maybe even a tick or two slower... know at least one flopper that had 3.96 1000ft times in Jan of 06 in the right conditions...

That is very true... but the point is, the cars are no quicker than they were 4 to 5 years ago. the issue is stopping that extra 200 pounds of mass, not accelerating it.
