(6-22-2011) Huntington, NY – Spring 2011 has been extremely wet and unpredictable in the Northeast to say the least, and the Northeast Outlaw Pro-Mod Association hasn’t caught many breaks this year. As with any other outdoor motorsport event, weather dictates attendance and car counts. Today’s economy and weather has created hesitance. Before teams move, weather checks will dictate when and if they start down the road to an event. Weather, economy and high fuel prices spares nobody, from the Race Teams to the Tracks, to the Supporters. The one positive is the loyalty of the teams and tracks as many teams show up even in inclement weather forecasts. We look forward to a great rest of the year with better than ever events, faster cars, more new members and improved weather.

Our first point’s event of the season, “The Mountain Motor Nationals” May 13th-14th forecast changed a half a dozen times leading up to the event. From 50% to 30 % rain, that we just tried our best to get the event in. Unfortunately after getting in qualifying, while in the lanes for first round of eliminations, the rain let loose and rained the rest of the evening, causing the NEOPMA to cancel the Pro Mod race.

The first of two Super Chevy events the series will run went off without a hitch. The event May 21st-22nd at Virginia Motorsports Park “Chevy v. the World I”, Pro Mod Wars feature two Chevy’s winning the event and showing their dominance. Matt Deitsch won the Nitrous class and picked up his first win, and Tim O’Hare picked up another of his many wins in the Blower/Turbo Class.

The third event of the year’s forecast for the June 11th at Atco Raceway was 50% or better chance of rain and thunderstorms. With gray skies Friday and a 50% percent chance Saturday kept many teams from leaving their home base and had fans changing their plans from watching fast quarter mile action to something that would be dry. The decision was made to cancel the event. We thank all the teams that took the chance and showed up at the track, and all those willing, but with a long trip made a wise decision to stay home.

Next up for the NEOPMA on July 16th-17th is the world famous Super Chevy event at Maple Grove Raceway. This event will feature 25 plus Pro Mods of many makes and models vying for supremacy at the “Chevy v. the World II”, Pro Mod Wars. Chevy Dominate in the first Pro Mod Wars, and time will tell if any other manufacturer has something for the Chevy’s. Expect to see many new members as the series grows in popularity.
