Still great! If it helps car counts, who cares where it comes from! This is a track owner making sure his event is fully there. Back in 2000, tracks were PAYING Shirley Muldowney to compete at their IHRA event.

Back in the AHRA days, they had a 16 car show. 8 drivers were paid to compete (Garlits, The Greek, etc) and 8 spots were open qualifying. People would come to the races to see the name drivers, always a big crowd. That is one way to get people to come to the races.

No, the money comes from a government program in Texas that Governor Greg Abbott signed into law a few years ago that takes taxpayer funded money via sales tax that goes to help attract major events to the state of Texas.
Is that for real?

How does this compare to the regular NHRA National Event payouts?

I mean - Greg Abbott actually doing something good - WOW. Great - glad Billy Meyer was able to file the correct forms to get this. That's a creative, thoughtful business owner!

I don’t know if this government funding is true, but I’m guessing the average taxpayer would not be happy, knowing his hard earned money is gonna end up funding a bunch of drag racers !!
