Who says they have to purchase from DSR? Not like Paul Lee or Jim Dunn is getting any significant financial support from Dodge, they don't have to pledge allegiance to them if they don't want to. JFR, Kalitta, and now TSR are still going to be needing to get rid of some bodies the same way DSR always has, I'm sure if they find a good price for some non-Dodge bodies they'll have no issue jumping ship.Unless I'm mistaken, I think Mopar was with DSR, and Ron was just the driver. I imagine he would have raced with any manufactures body that DSR put on their cars. I don't think it would be in his best interest to burn any bridges with Mopar, but Ron has to pay the bills now and it sounds like he gave them the first opportunity to be associated with his new team and they opted not to. So, I think he has every right to look at other manufactures to be associated with his team. The cost of bodies can take a pretty big chunk out of a racing budget... and even more after a few blower explosions and fires. Basically, it looks like Mopar chose to put their support into TSR instead of RCM. There are teams that I won't mention by name that I have to wonder how the loss of all of the funny car teams at DSR could hurt them a little down the road because the good used bodies from the DSR funny car teams is what they would purchase for their operation.
It's still early, we will see how it all works out eventually. But you can only purchase what's available. I don't look for TSR to have any for sale anytime soon.Who says they have to purchase from DSR? Somebody knew I was gonna post this......
Hey! It could happen! From the other thread December 12th. Is it clearer now?
Complete hypothetical situation.
A guy named Con Rapps just won the Championship driving a Hudson.
Con started his own team. He is keeping the team intact and figures to be a Championship contender for years to come.
Con has not announced what make of car he will drive.
Hudson has announced that they are backing a different new team that they have a relationship with, but could still be with Con.
Con has talked to Edsel, Duesenberg and others who might want to be involved.
No formal announcement, yet.
Con has the Championship to sell.
Con could tell Hudson: "I need X dollars to stay with you." (Remember Hudson already committed $$ to another team)
Con could tell Edsel or Duesenberg: sponsor me for X dollars, and you can tell people "The Champ drives a Edsel!" (Or Duesenberg)
What do you do if you are Con?
What do you do if you are Edsel or Duesenberg?
Strictly hypothetical......
