Center Line, Mich. - Mopar is proud to announce that Buddy Martin, half of the famous Sox and Martin duo that took the NHRA, IHRA and AHRA Super Stock and Pro Stock division by storm in the 1960s and early 1970s, will attend the upcoming Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals event. Martin will be reunited with the 1968 Super Stock HEMI Plymouth Barracuda that Ronnie Sox piloted during the 1968 and 1969 racing seasons. Sox won the 1969 NHRA U.S. Nationals Super Stock championship behind the wheel of the well-known machine. </br>
"It will be very special to return to the Mopar Mile-High Nationals this year," Martin said. "It's been a long number of years since I've attended the event, and with the special tributes to Ronnie and Scott Geoffrion, it will be nice to be a part of the event. Bandimere Speedway always runs a first class operation, and the fact that it's a Mopar event brings even more excitement to the race."</br>
Martin and his 1968 HEMI Barracuda will be a part of the Mopar Big Block Party in downtown Golden, Colo., on Thursday, July 13. Race fans will be able to purchase posters made in Sox and Martin's honor, with the proceeds going to the Ronnie Sox Foundation. The foundation benefits both the Virginia Cancer Society and the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Martin will also be on hand to sign autographs and greet fans, from 5 to 7 p.m. MDT. </br>
Race fans may take this opportunity to leave tributes to Ronnie Sox, who passed away in April, and Scott Geoffrion, who passed away in May of this year. Photo collages of both drivers will be on display at the Mopar Big Block Party and at Bandimere Speedway throughout the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals event. The boards will be located near the Sox car display at the Mopar Big Block Party and at the Mopar Direct Connection display at Bandimere Speedway, and will be forwarded to the families of the late drivers after the event. </br>
The Mopar Big Block Party will kick off in downtown Golden, Colo., with an open press conference on the stage from 6:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. MDT. Immediately following, the Block Party crowd is invited to witness a special MoPowered wedding, officiated by newly ordained "minister" Gary Scelzi, who will lead a Mopar-crazed couple in taking their vows. Ron Capps and Angelle Sampey will look on as the duo's best man and maid of honor. </br>
Headlining the entertainment for the Mopar Big Block Party will be Chicago's best cover band, Maggie Speaks. The fabulous foursome of David Calzaretta, Blake Cooper, Shawn Sommer and Samir Varma, whose gigs have included the coveted "Taste of Chicago" event, will again appear on Chi-town's behalf. Featuring a play list that ranges from AC/DC and Aerosmith, to Nelly and Matchbox 20, partygoers are sure to find their musical tastes covered by Maggie Speaks. </br>
The Mopar Big Block Party will begin at 6 p.m. MDT in downtown Golden, Colo., on Thursday, July 13. There is no charge for admission. </br>
