Mopar Challenger Drag Pak drivers continued their assault on the NHRA Sportsman ranks at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway. Joseph Teuton of Houma, La. powered his 2011 V-10 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak to the No. 1 spot in Stock Eliminator with a 10.006-second pass at .994 under index. Teuton also claimed the A/SA class win and his father, Jeff Teuton, took home the F/SA class victory in his ’09 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak.
Mopar Drag Pak-ers Keith Lynch and Dave Thomas joined the two Teutons in cracking the top-10 in Stock qualifying. Mopar Dodge Avenger driver Allen Johnson’s father and engine builder, Roy Johnson, qualified No. 21 in Stock Eliminator behind the wheel of his 2009 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak, recording a best pass of 10.373 at 0.627 under index. Johnson fell in the second round in both class eliminations in Stock Eliminator and overall Stock eliminations.
Despite his sooner-than-desired exit, the elder Johnson thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to race with his son Allen at their home quarter-mile.
"It was a blast to race this Mopar Challenger Drag Pak," said Roy Johnson of competing with his son at their home track of Bristol on Father’s Day weekend "You don’t get any better than this. Just having the chance to run is fun. Being a local boy, I must have had a thousand people come up and wish me good luck."
