Memphis, TN (9/28/08): Clay Millican was a little disappointed with his first-round loss to Doug Herbert in Sunday's O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, "but the good thing is we had the opportunity to be here racing," he said.
Millican, of Drummonds, Tenn., and Mark Pickens of Memphis had a hospitality area full of relatives and friends who were happy they're here, too. This was the team's fifth race in the Hope4Sudan/Lend America/Nitro Fish Top Fuel dragster and the third in a row.
"We just didn't run quick enough," was Millican's assessment of his 3.972-second elapsed time 1000-foot time. "It was nothing bad. We'll just keep working on it to make it better."
Millican did leave the line first, .050 to .077-second, but he couldn't outrun Herbert.
