Matt Smith Stays in the Countdown

Matt Smith headed to Dallas, Texas with one goal in mind and that was to stay in the top-four in points. As the Pro Stock Motorcycles would attempt to race for the first time in over a decade at the Dallas complex, Smith would be a little hesitant going into the race without a setup.

However, Smith would soon adapt nicely. Qualifying in the third position for Sunday’s race, Smith knew he needed to be good on the tree and go some rounds in order to lock himself into the top-four.

During the first round, Smith battled Michael Phillips where the two engaged in a very intense 63 second staging battle. Smith cut a great light and ran well. Putting him self in the second round.

Having to run Hector Arana second round, Smith knew he would have to be on his A-game once again. Cutting another good light and running well again, Smith would get the win light by a mere one inch at the finish line to advance his way to the semi-finals.

Squaring off against Andrew Hines in the semi’s, Smith did all he could but fell up a little short at the top end as he bike drifted somewhat out of the groove.

“We had a great day,” said Smith. “I wished we could have gone more rounds, but we did well. We managed to stay in the top-four and now we can battle it out for the championship at the final two races. It should be very interesting because we have four great bikes up there.”

Smith will run for the NHRA POWERade Championship in a few weeks as he sits in the second position in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Points, only a mere 10 points out of the lead.
