[coverattach=1]Brantford racer, one of original PMRA teams, will continue with 1968 Camaro

Brantford, Ontario (January 16, 2009) – A supporter of the Pro Modified Racing Association since it started in 2004, Mark Nielsen plans to continue his support of the Pro Modified drag racing series for the upcoming 2009 season. “We plan to do more PMRA races this year,” said the racer from Brantford, Ontario. “Hopefully do them all.”

Finishing 10th in the 2008 PMRA Point Award Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated, Nielsen, with his Nielsen Motorsports 1968 G-Force Race Cars Yenko Camaro, said no big changes are in the works for this season. “No major changes are planned,” he said. “The car will be basically the same, and with the same team.”

A major part of the team includes the crew Randy Gronlund, Richard Ruysseveldt and Dave Ross. Nielsen also mentioned the team will probably run two IHRA events, at the Grand Bend Motorplex and US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.

Nielsen did not run all PMRA races in 2008, but his year was highlighted during the season closer event at Cayuga Dragway, where he qualified number two and set top speed of the event with a 237.30-mph posting. Although he was out first round for that race, he did go to the final in the previous event at Cayuga, the Fourth Annual KC Auto Family Day race, and was runner-up to winner Mike Stawicki of Medina, NY, succumbing to severe tire shake in the light blue Camaro. Powered by an ERD (Engine Research & Development) 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Supercharged Hemi, Nielsen’s Camaro is fueled by an ERD system, and the engine is mated to a Lenco three-speed transmission. Nielsen, who has run up and down drag strips since the early 1970s, and winner of the 2006 PMRA Challenge at Cayuga Dragway, was in Texas recently purchasing another drag racing car, an original Plymouth Super Stock car.

“This car is my racing retirement plan,”Modifieds.”

The PMRA will compete at several drag strips in 2009, including dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, starting with the season opener on May 16 and 17, at St. Thomas Dragway on July 11 and 12, and a season-closer at the Southwestern Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex on September 5 and 6.

Negotiations are underway way with several US race tracks based in Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as Quebec with the plan of presenting a six or seven event PMRA drag racing series for 2009.
