Las Vegas - After last weekend's big celebration of Duane Shields' final national event, it was back to business for Madison Payne who returned to the driver's seat of the Muscle Milk A/Fuel Dragster at the Las Vegas regional race. The regional was switched back to the two-lane format following the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals where four lanes were used at once.
Madison qualified fifth with a 5.33 at 268 MPH in a tough eight-car field where the slower eight of the sixteen cars that were there didn't make the cut to compete on race day.
In round one, Madison raced Kim Parker from the Seattle area. At the hit, Madison was out first with a .059 to Parker's .091. Madison had the lead just before half-track but had to pedal twice en route to the finish line. As the cars crossed the stripe it was Kim Parker with the victory by twenty feet which is a little more than half a car length. Parker rang up a 5.34 at 270 MPH to Madison's 5.43 at 270 MPH. "Madison did a great job pedaling twice to get the car settled down after shaking the tires. We will try to do a better job this next weekend in Charlotte" Duane said.
Duane and Madison would like to thank their great sponsors including Muscle Milk, GRP Connecting Rods, NGK Spark Plugs, Clean Boost, and Brad Anderson Enterprises for their support this season.
