Lost Another Strip (1 Viewer)

After 63 years of operation, another very long standing Drag Strip has closed it's gates for a few reasons, Osceola Dragway in Indiana. Track owners Ruth and Tim Madich recently decided to not open....ever again. The track has been for sale for a number of years and had some buyers that wanted to keep it a open strip.

Two big reasons were the Covid and the U.S. EPA. Covid limited most shows at the track as well as rainouts. Then the big issue that scared the buyers, a U.S EPA Superfund site. There was contaminated ground water on part of the tracks property that was linked to a Conrail freight YARD 1 MIL from the track and needed remediation. A dairy farmer bought the property it is said it's 170 acre property is an "investment property." The supposed new owner said there is nothing to clean up and it's being regulated. Hmmmm.

In 2019 Hoosier Motorsports & Business Park had made an offer, tried for a slight zoning change from the County Commissioners (Always upstanding people ,right?) to build commercial building as well as renovating the track. Some dude who lived near the track sued of the zoning change.

So another long term strip goes the way of many other strips.
