The Bandimere family has that on thier website, and it's really cool, and seems to work flawlessly. When the Quick 16 & Jr. Dragsters run through there one right after another, it's pretty impressive how fast whoever they have typing in the names & data can get everything posted. There is not much pause between runs.

Assume it's coming right out of the timing system, which already has the names/numbers of all the entered cars/drivers. They don't have to type bupkis in real time :)

Early rounds are always a challenge for the announcers and track data entry staff.

With ever changing names for team drivers and new numbers as they change classes, they do the best they can. Driver numbers/class on cars too small or in unreadable font just make their jobs even more difficult.

Usually, by the second time trial or qualifying session, they have everything straightened out.

Watching some of those guys in the tower, and even this weekend you could hear the background noise as people throw information out to these announcers or are talking in the background and still here Bob or Alan act like there's no distraction.

I have a hard time keeping my concentration on one conversation when some people are talking around mne.

Live timing isn't an NHRA provided function or tool. It is technology developed and sold to individual tracks by Sagera. If the track hasn't bought and installed the software and hardware, there won't be live timing available for any events at that track.

Perhaps someone can then explain why NHRA.com promises "Coming Soon"?

The same way they say the email is coming soon as Brian said. They promised that over two years ago and it's still coming soon

Sooo . . . Firebird had the technology installed and operating through the track's website for the recent divisional race and it was fantastic. If this much maligned track can invest in this and make it work, what is the problem with NHRA. Are they waiting for the track owners to pony up?
I forget, who owns Gainesville ?

This is destined to be a fiasco. We're talking about the NHRA, the same group that can't get it's website to work half the time and the same group that can't get their timing equipment to work at the track. Combine the two and it's a recipe for disaster.

All I know is what I wrote, Jim.

This is the third season I'm aware of that the system has been available to tracks that want it. All it takes is a CompuLink timing system and a dedicated track website for it to work. I have no knowledge of the NHRA's intentions or requirements for implementing the system at all national event tracks.

and who operates the track at Pomona?
