Koretsky believes partnership will lead to race wins

Pomona, Calif. - Could this be the year Kenny “Captain Chaos” Koretsky puts a little excitement into the NHRA POWERade Series Pro Stock title race?

The gregarious Koretsky has been drag racing for more than 25 years yet has only one top 10 finish. He is the first, and only, driver to qualify in Pro Stock and Top Fuel at the same NHRA event. He is passionate about the sport. He and Eddie Guarnaccia, his longtime friend and crew chief, have spent countless hours at race tracks around the country without celebrating in winner’s circle.

Now that Koretsky, owner of Nitro Fish apparel, and Greg Hill, owner of Indicom Electric, are partners, Koretsky finds himself sitting in a car capable of competing for race wins on a consistent basis. And maybe even challenging for the Pro Stock championship.

“I am extremely excited about this season,” said Koretsky, of Richboro, Pa. “We’ve had a really fast car at our test sessions at Bradenton (Fla.) and Las Vegas. I think Eddie and Tomi Laine (Hill’s crew chief) are really jelling, our crews are working well together and Steve Schmidt’s motors are making a lot of power.

“I think you’ll see big things out of our team this year. I have confidence in our motors and the crew, and that definitely helps me as a driver. We have a good team with good people.”

Koretsky and Hill got a preview peek at the new team’s potential at Richmond, Va., in October when Koretsky stopped the timers in 6.594 seconds, becoming the second driver to run under 6.60 seconds. Those 6.6-second times were prevalent in testing at Bradenton and he added a 6.69 at Las Vegas on Saturday.

“I feel relaxed. Selling Clay Millican’s Top Fuel team (to Evan Knoll last month) took a ton of bricks off my shoulders,” Koretsky said. “I’m rooting for Clay to get his first NHRA win and he’s rooting for me to get mine.”
