I dont have a care either way, but how is EE the substitute for Edwards? Shouldn't the next person in the order (#9) slide into #8 and everyone move up?

I didnt think she was in that spot due to the amount of races she missed.

It used to be that the next qualifier (such as #17 or in this case #9) would be ready to fill a spot when any qualified car couldn't make it to the starting line. That car would be inserted into the vacant spot - not a reshuffling of all cars.

That is correct. The only other thing is that Erica didn't get lane choice against V since she was inserted into Mike Edwards spot which is why V picked the left lane. Ended up not mattering since she won from the right lane anyway.

There were two qualified drivers who missed the Challenge - Edwards and Greg Anderson. Anderson was the first alternate (qualified 8th). So they used the second alternate, Enders. She replaced Edwards on the ladder.

Same thing happens in Sportsman and semi-pro (TAD, TAFC, PMD) racing all the time.

A bit of luck? If it was me, I'd stop by the Mega-Million lottery enroute to the nearest casino.
