[coverattach=1]Consistency key for the K&K Team

STRATFORD, ONTARIO (September 22, 2009) - Despite not winning an event, the K&K Racing Team captured the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts sponsored Quick 32 Sportsman Series Point Award Championship in Cayuga, Ontario at Toronto Motorsports Park this past weekend.

Sitting in third position going into the final weekend, the K&K Team overtook point’s leader Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario to claim the first Championship Point Award Series.

The key to their season was consistency. “We never won an event, but we went rounds every race and won the rounds we needed to win. We didn’t win any of the battles but we won the war,” stated driver Kevin Wicke.

“The teams in this series are some of the best around, there were never any easy rounds,” added Wicke. “To win the first championship with a new car is great and it shows how good of a team we have. Zim (Crew Chief Kevin Zimmer) and I have been at this for a lot of years and with Danno and Denny (Dan & Dennis Culliton) on board it makes my job pretty easy. There is not a chance we would have won this thing without them.”

The team’s key to the championship may have been the first round on both days of the Double Header weekend. The only Top Sportsman car ahead of them in the points was Darrin Grubb of Ingersoll, Ontario. They squared off against Grubb both days in the first round and won both races.

“Those two rounds were huge, if we lost the race on Saturday we were all but out of contention. Sometimes it is who you beat and when you beat them that is most important,” stated Crew Chief Kevin Zimmer.

With most of the other teams in contention going out in the early rounds on Sunday including a second round loss for the K&K Team, there was only Carl Spiering and Michael Kalin who had a chance of catching Wicke.

The team was watching with their fingers crossed as both competitors lost in the third round of eliminations clinching the championship for the K&K Team.

“There are so many people to thank this year. We have a great crew and great sponsors and it certainly wouldn’t have happened without the support of Ideal Supply and NAPA Auto Parts and the first class venues where we competed in Grand Bend and Cayuga.”

“The Quick 32 Sportsman Series is first class and we have the series’ organizers and officials to thank for that,” added Wicke. “It gave all of the teams a great program to compete in.”

The PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series winners will be honored at the Champions Banquet on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in the Oak Room in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The K&K Team is supported by family and friends as well as marketing partners: Perth Auto Dismantlers, Fraser Paving, Ron’s Precision Machine, Bear’s Performance Products, Skully Bros. Fabrication, Fram Canada, CVR Inc. and Hutch’s Transmission.
