I was just looking through some older threads on the 'mater and it got me to thinking about The Speed Sport dragster of Lyle Fisher and Red Greth out of Tucson, and didn't see this news. Greth passed away in April of this year.
I searched Speed Sport dragster and this link came up: https://tucson.com/sports/local/eve...cle_bb0b246a-a2b6-11eb-8614-cf87c441abc1.html
Here's another story about him: https://www.tucsondragway.com/post/racing-community-loses-tucson-legend-red-greth
I never got to see "Old Noisy", the rear engined roadster run. But, on my first trip to the original Tucson Dragway in 1966, the very first car I saw going down the track was the front engined Speed Sport. I was immediately and hopelessly hooked on drag racing.
It turns out Red Greth and his family lived about three blocks from where we lived. His son, Kenton, and I went to Hudlow Elementary and later, Fickett Junior High before my family moved to Arkansas in 1970. As the article says, racers used to stay at Greth's house after a Saturday night at the track, leaving their cars parked in front of his house. I got to sit in countless race cars. I sure wish I had a camera back then.
