Johnson attends SkillsUSA Leadership Center conference on Generation Why

LEESBURG, VA: Snap-on Tools Pro Stock Motorcycle rider, Steve Johnson, continue to show his strong support of the today's youth by accepting a special invitation to attend a lecture program and seminar for the SkillsUSA Leadership Center in Leesburg , Virginia on September 5th, following the U.S. Nationals.

The presentation featured a lecture by generational expert, Eric Chester, who spoke about Generation Why and explained how to better understand students, employees and customers. In addition to Johnson, the seminar was attended by representatives from the Department of Labor, Job Core of America and the National Trade Board (which included Lowes and the Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioners of America). Chester is a specialist when it comes to speaking, teaching and connecting with "under 25-year-olds". He is a former teacher and coach, an author of nine books about the youth and has been a host of a television talk show called Teen Talk 2000. He's been an invited motivational speaker to more than 1,500 high schools and colleges where his presentations have made a positive impact on the lives of over 2 million students.

"I'm so lucky that SkillsUSA executive director, Tim Lawrence, thought of me to listen to Eric Chester's phenomenal presentation," said Johnson. "Since 1990 I have spoke to thousands of students at schools and through NHRA events. One of my messages is talking about the tremendous rewards of a technical career. So whether you are racing or repairing cars, boats, airplanes or motorcycles its all so high tech these days education is the key to success. Drag racing is a great platform to highlight higher education and since WyoTech is the official technical school for the NHRA it's a perfect tie in. Heck, Eric has drag racing in the family so after the seminar he gave me some extra direction to hone my message along with a copy of his award winning book on Generation Why."

Johnson is extremely proactive in his efforts to spread the word about the wealth of future opportunities within the world of drag racing. In addition to his involvement with the SkillsUSA National Leadership Center, Johnson is also involved with WyoTech training centers and performs his own motivational speeches for the youth across the country.

"There are so many opportunities in drag racing that students today aren't even aware of," said Johnson. "By educating them about our sport it has a positive impact on both the students and drag racing. It's a win/win situation for everyone involved, but most importantly for the youth."
