<P> (10-1-08)DELAWARE, Ohio -- In an effort to give its competitors ample time to prepare for the season-ending eighth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, officials with the JEGS ProMod Challenge have released the official list of invitees for the final event of their 10-race schedule, which will conclude with an awards party Sunday night at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Headlined by JEGS ProMod Challenge championship contenders Josh Hernandez, Tony Pontieri, Jay Payne, Danny Rowe, Kirk Kuhns, and Joe Baker, the list of racers that will vie for the last trophy of the year also includes IHRA regulars Kenny Lang, Mike Castellana, Tommy D'Aprile, and Mike Janis.
As usual, the regular stalwarts from the JEGS ProMod Challenge will be looking to protect their turf. Former series winners Troy Coughlin, Rick Stivers, Harold Laird, and Von Smith will be joined by hopefuls Roger Burgess, Ray Commisso, Rick DiStefano, Tommy Gray, Mike Knowles, Taylor Lastor, Steve Matusek, Mike Moran, Scott Ray, and Tim Tindle.
"It's an exciting time as we conclude our first year as title sponsor of the JEGS ProMod Challenge," said Troy Coughlin, one of four Coughlin brothers that owns and operates high-performance parts giant JEGS Mail Order. "It's been a great season and we expect the final race to be just as fun as the first nine.
"Aside from the race, we've put together a very cool party at Christian Audigier The Nightclub at Treasure Island. This is definitely not going to be your usual year-ending awards ceremony. We're doing it up JEGS style and we have some very special people to recognize, including our new champion and the rest of the top 10 drivers."
The invitation-only party begins at 7:45 p.m. and will give way to Industry Night for the SEMA Show at 10 p.m., which is open to all comers. The hotel also is offering special room rates for JEGS ProMod Challenge competitors and teams. Interested race teams should e-mail their room request to Scott Woodruff at [email protected].
The following drivers must confirm their participation in the event by e-mailing their intentions to [email protected] as soon as possible so that racers unable to attend can be replaced by a lengthy list of alternates hoping for an opening.
Invitees, in alphabetical order, are: Joe Baker, Roger Burgess, Mike Castellana, Ray Commisso, Troy Coughlin, Tommy D'Aprile, Rick DiStefano, Tommy Gray, Josh Hernandez, Mike Janis, Mike Knowles, Kirk Kuhns, Harold Laird, Kenny Lang, Taylor Lastor, Steve Matusek, Mike Moran, Jay Payne, Tony Pontieri, Scott Ray, Danny Rowe, Von Smith, Rick Stivers, and Tim Tindle.
