Jeg Coughlin Runner-up in Close Finish at Las Vegas
Coughlin's Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Finishes Close Second at Vegas

LAS VEGAS - One small glitch in the Pro Stock championship round Sunday put a roadblock in Jeg Coughlin's run to the SummitRacing.com Nationals winner's circle.

This was the first final round for Coughlin in his first season driving the Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Cobalt. And he stamped himself as the driver to beat by claiming the low qualifying position on Friday and holding it through qualifying, earning his 11th career No. 1 and second in a row. His consistent qualifying runs brought recognition - and $1500 -.to his crew via NHRA's Full Throttle Pit Crew award.

In the title round, Coughlin left the starting line first against Greg Anderson (.018 second to .030) but Anderson got the win light with a run of 6.724 seconds at 205.29 to Coughlin's 6.758 at 204.45 mph.

The glitch was a miniscule moment, "maybe close to a tenth of a second," said Coughlin. "That's the way things are out here where we are measuring in thousandths of a second and when everything isn't at 100 percent, you are at risk. That was all it took to take us out of the ball game. We really thought we'd make a strong run."

Coughlin eliminated Max Naylor (6.754 to 6.815), Jim Yates (6.764 to a foul) and Allen Johnson (6.740 to a foul) before the finals.

Coughlin remained fourth in points but now trails teammate Dave Connolly by 14 points, 329-315.

"We had just one heck of a weekend," said Coughlin. "We came in here and ran extremely well and ran right up front. I felt great behind the wheel and it showed. We performed extremely well in all four rounds. I think everybody in the whole Cagnazzi Racing organization deserves a pat on the back. We want to keep it going. We have lot of races to go."

The next one is at Atlanta, April 27-29.
