<P> (7-27-08) Elma, NY. – Two Time IHRA Pro Modified Season Champion, Mike Janis,
will lead the eight-car Torco Race Fuels Pro Mod Shootout field into Martin Michigan. Qualifying positions for the shootout were determined from the final qualifying positions of each event prior to the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals dating back to Epping last season. The Shootout winner will receive$50,000; the runner-up will earn $20,000. The semi-finalists will pocket $9,000 and the quarter-finalists net $3,000.
Lead Crew Man, Steve Hermann, has mixed feelings about the shootout. "It's great that the IHRA and Torco have put this program together and given us a chance to run for some big money, I just wish it was a separate event. With all of that money hanging out there there's a lot of pressure to win the shootout and if your not careful that can hamper your qualifying efforts for the actual race. We have to stay focused and not let the shootout hurt us in the series points race," said Hermann.
As Hermann mentioned the Torco Pro Mod Shootout is held during qualifying for the IHRA Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals held at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. With only four races remaining on the 2008 IHRA schedule the Mike Janis Racing Team needs to make their move at this event. Heading into the Martin event team driver, Mike Janis, sits fourth in IHRA Pro Mod points five rounds out of first. Crew Chief Mike Janis Jr. understands the importance of this race. "With only four races left we have to start our charge at championship soon. I really want to win that 50k from Torco but we cannot loose focus of our goal of another championship. Martin is a big one for us," said Janis.
Janis is scheduled to face the number five points earner for the shootout, Chip King. Other competitors in the eight-car shootout are Scott Cannon, Kenny Lang, Ed Hoover, Jason Hamstra, Mike Castellana, and Jim Halsey.
Qualifying for the IHRA Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals will begin on Friday with two sessions, one at 2 P.M. and one at 7 P.M. Saturday's first qualifying session will count as the first round of the shootout with the semi-finals slated for 4 P.M. and the finals to be run in conjunction with the final round of qualifying during the "Night of Fire".
