INDY: Rescheduled to next weekend!

Unless they were supposed to run with props and oars, this may be a really good decision... ;)

Wow, this changes everything. I don't recall them ever closing the field only to re-open it for more qualifications. Hopefully the non-regular pros can come back. The biggest losers will be the fans and sportsman racers who cannot return. I know mother nature is uncontrollable, but it still sucks.

probably because the "countdown" hasn't been around as long as the event has...designing a contrived countdown system has it's limits, which include allowing weather to choose the qualifiers (same as) the spots in the countdown.

gotta love Larry Morgan's "cookout" comments on ESPN.....

What does this mean with 3 Divisional races scheduled this weekend. Englishtown, Woodburn and Iowa for D5? I know a lot of drivers will pick Indy over their Divisionals and no one EVER runs a divisional the same weekend as indy.

The planned completion of the LODRS 5-5 race on Thursday and the originally scheduled LODRS 5-6 races at Earlville will be completed as planned.

See you there!

I'm going to Englishtown of course. It's just some of the guys still in competition or yet to start elims (Super Stock & Comp in particular) are gonna have to go to indy even if the Division Titles are up for grabs. I guess I won't see Gary at E-Town as he's #5 in Super Stock. I'll probably still see the other PC Richard & Son Cars at RP.

I'm so glad I live 20 minutes away. :)

Can't wait for next weekend. (despite the early forecasts for rain)

I'm planning on making the 5 hour drive again next weekend, but saw the early forecast before we left the hotel. It didn't give me much hope, but thats a long ways away in the weather world.

So Larry is right in saying that NHRA is stupid for not coming back next week, continuing qualifying and then racing.

But when NHRA announces that they are coming back next week, continuing qualifying and then racing, they are stupid? Do I have that right?

Am I the only one confused?

The only stupid decision NHRA made was to reopen qualifying. It has NEVER been done due to loss of qualifying sessions to rain. Correct me if I am wrong...

To be honest, it gives the fans of day of qualifying they were entitled to, and people who thought they were going to miss the field get two shots at it. Win-win.

Alan,Thanks for keeping us wet fans at Indy updated! We really appreciate the updates that you gave us all weekend!

The fans were entitled to it huh?

And the racers who made the field in the 3 completed sessions and get bumped next weekend by someone who wasnt in during the first 3 sessions get screwed... All re-opening qualifying did was set a future precedent that any rained out qualifying sessions should be re-opened like this one was...

Good chance if the big names wouldn't have been outside the field this never would even have been considered...

Like I said earlier, has NHRA ever re-opened qualifying when rain has shortened it?

THey said that was the plan all weekend. If rained out and which days. Plan A, B and C were known. Heck I heard of it Saturday am and I'm a nobody.

I think they had to reopen it due to the shootout.

You couldn't allow those 8 cars in the shootout a shot at the track and the others who were qualified for Indy but not the shootout no chance.

Sure I suppose they could have had testing, but if they are going to do that then why not let them qualify. People who make the trip back get the two days they paid for those who can't can follow the refund policy.

Don't be confused buy the normally Saturday/Sunday schedule being a Sunday/Monday this week because it's Indy.

The determining factor here is Sunday, when we never turned a tire. If we lose Sunday but can race Monday we will. If we lose two complete days, we reschedule two complete days.

There have been times in the past when the plug was pulled on Saturday morning and the event rescheduled for the following weekend. Qualifying and racing. That's EXACTLY what happened here. There was hope that the race could be run, skipping the last two (Sunday) sessions, but once it was determinded that the race could not be run, it became a Saturday/Sunday rainout/reschedule. As opposed to a Sunday only rainout/reschedule.

If one round of qualifying had been run on Sunday, it would be considered a completed day, the fields would have been locked in and we would return next weekend for the race, not qualifying, just the race.
