MARTIN, Mich. (August 9, 2011) – The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam series returns to U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich. on August 12-13 for the Northern Nitro Jam.
This year’s edition of the annual summer stop at Michigan’s fastest track will mark the final Nitro Jam of the season and as such will provide one of the biggest shows in the nine-year history of this event. The 2011 Northern Nitro Jam will feature a record four nitro classes including Pro Fuel Dragsters, Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Nitro Harleys and Nostalgia Fuel Altereds, a huge sportsman race capped off with the Moser Axle-Mania Sportsman Showdown and the biggest show of the year featuring over half a dozen jet-powered dragsters and funny cars, a wheelstander, Megasaurus and the extreme showdown between the Grave Digger monster truck and the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi.
This is the ninth and final race of the 2011 IHRA Nitro Jam season.
Gates open at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with the first round of sportsman racing at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by FanFest at 5:30 p.m. and Nitro Jam beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday sportsman racing will get underway at 9 a.m. with FanFest at 5:30 p.m. and the Nitro Jam “Night of Fire” beginning at 7 p.m.
WHAT: The Northern Nitro Jam, the ninth and final event on the IHRA Nitro Jam schedule.
Event will include four professional, nitro-powered classes including Nostalgia Fuel Altered, Nitro Harley, Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car and Pro Fuel Dragster.
In sportsman competition nine classes will be contested including Top Sportsman, Top Dragsters, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod, Hot Rod, Box and No Box, plus the special $51,000 Moser Axle-Mania Sportsman Showdown.
Wrapping up the weekend will be a thrilling finale as the towering Grave Digger monster truck battles the 30,000 horsepower Super Shockwave jet semi, joining the car-eating Megasaurus, four jet-powered dragsters and funny cars, a wheelstander and more.
