all determined that we won’t let that happen again, regardless of who is

<P> (8/28/08) Defending JEGS Pro Mod world champion Josh Hernandez has been in the finals every time he’s raced Pro Mod at the US Nationals and holds a 1-2 win/loss record; this weekend, he’s looking to even the score at two wins and two runners-up.
Currently just 51 points out of the lead, Hernandez’ accomplishments this season have once again been championship-quality. While points-leader Tony Pontieri and the other competitors have had six events to earn their positions, the Texas-native has only raced five, missing one event due to scheduling conflicts.
“It’s been a good season so far,” Hernandez said, referring to his two event wins, three No. 1 qualifying efforts and second place in the points race.
“I’d like to make it an even better season by winning Indy and taking the points lead,” he added with a smile.
In last year’s U.S. Nationals final round, Hernandez fought a classic side-by-side battle with Baton Rouge-resident Harold, losing the round at the line, 6.102/235.72 to 6.124/237.84.
“For the fans, last year’s final was a great race, but for me and the team, it was a sobering disappointment. We’re all determined that we won’t let that happen again, regardless of who is in the other lane,” Hernandez said.
Qualifying at O’Reilly Raceway Park is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, continue with sessions at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and one final qualifier at 2 p.m. Sunday before the first round of eliminations Sunday evening at 5:10 p.m. The balance of eliminations will be run on Labor Day beginning at 11 a.m.
