DINWIDDIE, Va. (October 4, 2007) - Josh Hernandez has two goals for this weekend's AMS Pro Mod Challenge event at the Torco Race Fuels NHRA Nationals in Richmond, Va.: win the event, and stay on top of the qualifying list in the $50,000 ProCare Rx Pro Mod Clash.
The Conroe, Texas resident has driven his Howard Moon-tuned Dr. Moon's Rage '68 Camaro to six wins in eight events, clinching the 2007 World Championship with his unstoppable performance. He is also No. 1 in the points chase to qualify for the Clash and has clinched his spot to compete for the $25,000 cash prize in Vegas.
"It's been a stellar year, and I have to give so much credit to Howard and the team - they are amazing," Hernandez said.
"I know we could just relax this weekend because we have the World Championship locked up and are sitting on top of the Clash points, but, these we are all way too competitive to slow down. We've worked so hard this year, and I still have a few more things to accomplish before the banquet in Vegas."
Although Richmond was on the AMS schedule in 2006, this weekend marks the first time the AMS Pro Mods have raced at Virginia Motorsports Park because rain forced the cancellation of last year's event.
"We didn't get to race in Richmond last year because of the rain, and we're all really excited to finally get a chance. This track has such an awesome reputation for Pro Mods; I'm jazzed to be able to race here. The weather looks like it will be a little warm, but as long as there's no 'liquid sunshine' we'll be ok," he said.
Qualifying rounds are scheduled for 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5 and at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. Eliminations will begin Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and conclude Sunday, Oct. 7.
