For Hernandez, he's trying to retain his sizable lead in AMS Pro Mod competition, stay in the points chase in ADRL competition and win the rain-delayed 2006 ADRL World Finals. For Critchley, he's aiming to get back into the No. 2 spot in AMS Pro Mods, hold onto consistency points for attending every AMS event, and also move up in ADRL competition.
"Yeah, we're going to try to do the impossible, be two places at once," Critchley said. "It'll be exhausting, exciting, and amazing - and, hopefully worth it."
The plan for the teams is to send the AMS/NHRA-legal'68 Camaro and'70 Plymouth Barracuda to Madison, Ill., and the Outlaw eighth-mile '57 Chevy Bel Air and '93 Corvette to Valdosta, Ga. and fly private jets between the two events. Qualifying in AMS competition is scheduled for Friday at 3:30 and 6 p.m. where the weekend will begin for the team, and then they will fly to Georgia where they will attempt for the ADRL Georgia Drags, at noon and 2 p.m., (EDT) followed by eliminations beginning at 7 p.m. After eliminations they will return to Madison where they will run eliminations in AMS/NHRA competition on Sunday.
The Georgia Drags will also feature the rain-delayed final rounds from last year's ADRL World Finals, with Joshua Hernandez and Dwayne Watkins meeting for the Pro Extreme title. The final-round showdown will be part of the final qualifying session.
Hernandez said, "Every lap is so important this weekend, and every one of us is going to have to be completely focused on the task at hand. Of course, it goes without saying that the weather will have to cooperate with us at each location, and it is already becoming a factor, but, we can only look at what we can control, and right now, it's our emotions and our jobs we have to keep in check. Mother Nature will have to take care of things on her front."
Both Critchley and Hernandez agree that without the incredible support of AMS, Dave Wood and Tommy Lipar, none of these plans could even begin to come to fruition.
"Dave and Tommy are so committed to making things work, and I know Troy, Howard [Moon, crew chief], and all of the guys want to bring home as many wins as possible," Hernandez said.
Critchley added, "We've been trying to put this whole weekend together since we realized it was going to be such a conflict, and Dave has been right there, cheering us on, and putting so much on the line for us to be able to compete in both series. It's such a testament to who he is and how much he loves Pro Mod."
