MEMPHIS, TN (8/15/06) -- Doug Herbert is looking forward to this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park near the banks of the Mississippi River. The driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster has been making solid progress since an unexpected change in tuners in the midst of the NHRA's Western Swing three races ago left the team with no workable data.
Herbert is coming off of a quarterfinal finish at last weekend's event in Minnesota, where he made six solid, consistent runs. As tuners Jim Brissette and John Smith continue to gain valuable racing data on each run, the Snap-on Tools dragster has been running quicker and faster at every race.
"The Snap-on Tools team's confidence is building with each run and we're creating a very consistent set up," offered Herbert. "We just need to step up our performance a little bit and I know we have the right parts and the right people in place to do the job."
Herbert earned his fifth career NHRA Top Fuel national event title at the 1999 Mid-South Nationals, the same season he earned a career-best four victories. With a good performance in Memphis Herbert and the Snap-on Tools dragster could climb back into the Top 10 in the POWERade point standings.
