That the same weekend as Bruton Smith's Charlotte inagural race, the ADRL's Dragstock is in Rockingham? Aren't these two tracks about 120 miles part? Be interesting to see how that effects attendance?

I am planning on making the trip down to Concord. I would never make such a trip to Rockingham for an ADRL race. If you had a choice between going to a MLB game versus a minor league game where would you go? For me it will always be a MLB game, just my preference.

Joe, there's been a ton of talk on it on the pro mod boards.* And you know what Kenny said? I dont care, we aint changing the date, we are still going to pack the house at Dragstock.* And he's right.* I only know of 2 races that they have ever had to shut down and not allow any people in, and there were Dragstock ADRL last year and Houston ADRL this year.* Greg said there was one back in the day maybe Gville but he couldnt remember but thats the only 2 I know of.

And Paul, thats your choice but I know about 20k people that are different.* Last year at Dallas, the national event and the ADRL World Finals were 2 weeks apart and you know which one I chose?* I didnt go the National Event.* I went to the ADRL.* Its one helluva show. Matter of fact, this year I plan on going to 3 or 4 ADRL races. The only NHRA show's I'm going to is Houston and Dallas.

20K non paying spectators at Rock and more than likely 20K+ paying spectators at Concord. two different groups. If ADRL charged say $25 ticket how many of those 20K would be there?

I agree that if the ADRL charged they wouldnt get but probably 10k people. Thats the whole deal with them. If they have 10k people pay $25 to get in and then another $30, $35 on food, drink etc lets just say $60 a person at 10k people is $600k. Now lets let them in free, charge $5 and $20 to park, and people only spend say $40 a person. But the kicker is you have 40k people there. Yall do the math. I'll take 40k happy people who dont mind spending money since they got in free atleast $40 a person than 10k people who paid to get in and then watch there money more closely and spend avg $60. Thats $600k to $1.6m plus parking $$. Fact of the matter is, it dont matter how they get them there, they still come.

these races r free to fans?

Basically yes.... Its very easy to obtain free tickets for any ADRL event... I am one of the 20k that would choose ADRL over NHRA even if i had to pay.....

I might not go that far Shane, but I would go see the local AAA ball team before traveling 120 miles to see MLB. However, I would pay to see a 'local' (within about a hundred miles) nostalgia flopper show before traveling 250 miles each way to see a National Event.

They printed 600,000 tickets to give away for the Houston race this past weekend. They charge for parking, either $5 on spectator side or $20 for pits and then ofcourse you have to buy your food and beer and what not at $6 a piece, so they are making out very well like I said in my earlier post. Its a great strategy.

You cant get 40K of people in at the Rock

Actualy seating capacity is 35,000. at Rockingham...

Houston had over 40k i believe at the ADRL event this past weekend... for one day.....and yes tickets are free to the ADRL shows... but if it is profitable for the tracks whats the problem.....????

PLus... free or not .. if the show sucked .. NO ONE would come.... and its a great show....

i've got free passes to both events.. i will be at Rockingham for two days... and still debating on sunday for the NHRA.....

I know for a fact that the NHRA was trying its best to get Rockingham back in its fold..but it had to drop the ADRL race at the time....(2 years ago)..but.. it was more profitable to have the ADRL event than one of the NHRA events. SO Rockingham stuck with the IHRA and the ADRL.......

Justin, the ADRL races will always have their crowd. Besides, kinda hard to compete with Free tickets!

Going to be one less in Charlotte this year.

Turns out my wife is pregnant, and due THAT weekend.

i dont see the problem Dan

i mean is the baby coming out of you?!?!?! :p:p

EL OH EL Mike.

As for the rest of this thread ... like everything else in life ... it boils down to preference. If you like full bodied doorslammers or 1/8th mile racing in particular you will be at the Rock. If you are a Nitro fan or only follow the "pros" you will be in Charlotte. It doesn't necessarily mean one is better than the other.

Rock can barely seat 15,000

Actualy... the concrete stands at Rockingham were built on the same blue prints as the ones built at the oval.. (but later torn down)...and according to the program from the old North Carolina Motor Speedway i have here... those stands held aproximently 23,000 fans.

the kicker is... I believe that the strip stands at the ROCK are two full sections longer than the ovals were...

THe recently moved metal stands.. which are about to be part of the LMS dragstrip were the same length but several rows higher were rated to 35,000 seats. and LMS is only useing part of them for the new strip to start.

i'll double check the numbers... and correct where i am off....

I have worked at every track that has had a national event (NHRA or IHRA) in the past 10 years, and no way do the stone seats at the rock sit 23,000.
The main grandstands at LVMS only hold 17,000 and they are more than twice as many rows high, a little shorter in length but way more seats. The stone seats may hold 13.000 with alot of standing and not siting.
