08/25/06 - Christiansburg, VA--Matt Hagan and his crew head to Norwalk, Ohio for the IHRA Skull Shine World Nationals presented by ACDelco with mixed feelings. Last weekend in NHRA competition Hagan delivered a standout performance, qualifying #2 (with an ET tie with top qualifier Joey Martin) in the sweltering heat of Memphis, Tennessee only to lose in first-round competition due to a broken blower belt.
"The car was really running well and we thought we had a legitimate shot to go to the finals and possibly even win that event," recalls Matt. "To have our whole weekend undermined by a stroke of bad luck like that is really frustrating."
Despite his frustrations, Hagan is optimistic. "The thing we have to remember is that the car is running better than ever. Sure, the broken belt was disappointing, but it's just bad luck. That stuff is going to happen in drag racing. We've got to keep our eye on the prize."
Hagan delivered his best qualifying performance in a national Pro Modified event to date last weekend in Memphis, and looks to continue that trend this weekend in Norwalk.
Hagan comments, "John Vouros, Phil Roberts, and the rest of the crew worked really hard to put a good car under me last weekend. I drove it well, and in spite of the first round loss I think we did well. We've just got to get a little luck this weekend to go along with our hard work and you'll see us in the finals."
