2003 Northstar Nationals Pro Stock winner Greg Anderson was quoted at his winner's ceremony:
"This is a special win for me, personally. I had an angel in the cockpit today and he pushed me to this win. I lost my good friend John Hagen here in 1983. He was the guy that gave me a break in this sport. He gave me my start. John was killed here in 1983 and to win at this track twenty years later is something special. I hope he is looking down and smiling. I hope he is proud of me today.
"I'm dedicating this race to John Hagen and his family. His wife, Gerry, and his kids David and Michael came up from Minnesota to root for us and they're leaving here with this Wally Trophy."
