The DeJoria/Alexander run in the first round of funny car gave a good preview of the racing to follow in funny car and top fuel.
The track was in great shape and the crew chiefs had their combinations dialed in.
I wish I could have been there in person to witness the action.

And, I wish Fox would show more overhead shots during the runs.

Yes those overhead shots were pretty good! The close and very competitive overall racing of the fuel cars was tremendous!

Now, not to start a war, I don't know the reason behind it, but I sort of liked the format of the show today with only the AA/TF and AA/FC. I am not putting down the other classes racing today in any way, shape or form! Let 'er rip!

Yes, it was a good race. A little disappointed Pro Stocks weren't there.
A couple of thoughts about the broadcast. I did like the overhead shots and until they said they were from a helicopter, I thought they were using a drone. 3 hours for 2 Pro classes was too long. Too much fluff and gab from Brian and Tony. 2 hours would've been better. More commercials than actual racing. I understand commercials pays the bills but to see the same ones over and over gets boring real quick.
I normally record these shows so I can skip this kind of stuff, but the wife had the DVR tied up and my computer that I use to record "stuff" has been acting up lately thanks to a Windows update.
But hey, 3 hours of suffering is better than 1 hour of replay at 2 in the morning.
Bye runs aren't much fun to watch but I understand the driver wants to put on a good show and get that proverbial lane choice. Hasn't NHRA in the past paid local teams to show up to fill the field and take the chance of a "Cinderella" win and give the fans an underdog to root for? If not, maybe they should.

I think we're already seeing local teams come out to certain events. Not sure on the payout structure anymore, but pre covid I believe there was even a few thousand dollars for non qualifiers who showed up to try and qualify.

Those FC races were so close that for a while I thought I was watching Nitro Pro Stock. I wanted to see Cruz (or Alexis) win but Hagen won it honest. Congrats to him. Same with Torrence.

Got a question - what will the NHRA half-hour Pro Mod tv segment consist of next week, seeing as there were only 3 entries and one of them was destroyed in Round 1?

Hiya Jimi. what did you think of the Mountain Motor Pro Stocks? They were running some good numbers, plus you get to see a real hood scoop. heh

Carl, I think it was TA/FC that only had 3 entries. Pro Mod had 7, which isn't that great either.

I like. My favorite classes are cars with doors and huge amounts of horsepower.

- JR Carr's MMPS sure had that field covered. not sure what MMPS is doing in the NHRA. since addition of PM, isn't there enough classes?
- didn't mind low car counts (11 TF was pretty bad though). one session of 4 classes was long enough. more time to walk around and see stuff, talk to friends, and have some beers.
- didn't miss the bikes. not even for one second, but being MN, was surprised to not see the sleds. they are there every year.
- never saw wheelstanders on saturday. can't say that i missed them.
- i agree with Jimi, 3 hour TV show for two classes was too much. i get that PM has their own TV deal......but
- NO SPORTSMAN FINALS on tv show. 3 hours and couldn't find a few minutes, as they have on previous broadcasts. not good.
- haven't bought a day pass at BIR in over 30 years. kudos to track ticketing and parking staff. our experience was seamless and fast. parked close too, which was only an extra $20.
- announcing by all was and is always very good. had casual fans with; they were interested in and enjoyed all the interviews and commentary.
- there was a dude playing guitar and singing country music in the pro pits. i found that a bit unusual; but then again, jesus and yetti were also in attendance.
- could have sworn there was an 8 or 9 car comp field pre-race entry list? the class was not contested.
- why even run a 3 car TAFC field?....... and why the great bend, ks race the same weekend?
- great B/SA heads up stock final.

I believe the MMPS cars were there as an exhibition class.
Put me down as agreeing a three hour show for two classes was a bit much. But I always record the races and watch later in the day, so I was able to fast forward past all the fluff and commercials.
But, again, overall it was some of the best racing all year.

The show was good. Would have liked to see them broadcast the MMPS in between the pro categories. It's looking like they are finally getting more cameras but I wasn't a really big fan of the split window staging.

I liked the split screen view personally. It certainly gives a better idea of what a "hole shot" means.

should try the split screen with images above and below each other, not side x side. would be a more natural visual of both cars reacting to green. i like the idea.
i agree with others, the camera work from the lucas chopper is great. pretty sure it tows down road in back of van body semi? when the chopper view is from directly above,
it would be great if they could freeze frame at 1000' stripe. i think a lot of viewers don't know what finish line to look at, as you see both, and the rubber on track goes to 1320',
so IMO it's hard to realize the 1000' finish line........edit: tuesday afternoon: just got text from friend who rarely tunes into nhra, but tries to every year for brainerd race. his first comment
was, 'the overhead shots from the blimp were spectacular'. he also mentioned the thousandths of second wins. feedback from a 65 year old casual fan.

I enjoyed the low down from a front angle with both cars in the same screen! Low shots looking up at these cars coming up to stage makes them look bigger and more ominous.
