(8/31/08) GRAND BEND, ONTARIO – After three rounds of qualifying, Gary Irving of Bolton, Ontario qualified the Al Hinds-owned 2004 Corvette number one for the Third Annual PMRA Challenge at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Besting a field of Pro Modified Racing Association teams, presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario in the fifth race of the six-event 2008 tour, Irving posted a 6.119-second, 223.99-mph pass to take the number one spot for the eight-car field.

“We knew the car had it,” said a pleased Hinds after the qualifying session. “It took us some time to get the combination, but we found it, and we’re happy.”

Qualifying second was the 1953 Studebaker of Ralph Andreacchi of Maple, Ontario with a 6.268-second, 224.71-mph clocking in the Skull Motorsports entry. Third was recent PMRA Sanair winner Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario with his 1971 Dodge Challenger, fourth was 2007 PMRA Champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario and his B&B Racing 1963 Corvette, and fifth was Mark Nielson of Brantford, Ontario with his 1967 Camaro.

Rounding out the field was Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario, with his 1999 Dodge Avenger, who won this event last year, Toronto’s Sam Andreacchi in his 1967 Chevy Nova, and Jeff Roth out of Kitchener, Ontario with the J&J Roth Racing 1957 Chevy.

Final Championship eliminations will begin Sunday, August 31 starting at noon.

Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario continues to lead the 2008 Championship Point Award Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen with 1136 points. Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario is second with 1094 points, Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario is in third with 1062 points, followed by Randy Jewell of Holley, NY and Boniferro tied for fourth with 1058. The Grainy Brothers from North Tonawanda, NY are next with 921 points.
