Funny Car Points - Here is another “What If”……

The Funny Car points chase was crazy headed into Pomona, and regardless of the Countdown argument, we had a scenario where a driver could have been within striking distance of the championship like Tony Schumacher was back in ’06 when he had to set the record to win the title.

Due to the change to 1000’ mid season, there was no opportunity for a driver to grab the extra points for the record as no 1000’ records exist.

Imagine the b!tching and moaning should that scenario have raised it’s head!!

I'm not saying that they would have had to run to 1320 to get the record.

What I am saying is that because they are racing to 1000' there were 20 less points up for grabs than at earlier races in the year (the 1320' races) because they could not reset the record no matter how good a pass they laid down the 1000.

"What if", what if everyone was happy with Cruz being the 2008 Funny Car Champion???

By using last year's Countdown to 4, then Countdown to 1 format, Cruz would have still won the Championship because his team performed the best when they needed to.

Ahh..then there would be squawling about how NHRA didn't forsee the meteor event and did nothing to prevent it. If only they had investigated and researched it, they could have stopped it. Now there will be knee jerk reactions and...........

If it didn't land on someone and kill them, they WOULDN'T do anything.

If it did kill someone, every track would need titanium shields but, only over that exact same spot where the last one landed.
