POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2008) – Rod Fuller raced to his second consistent qualifying effort Friday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona as the six-time NHRA winner improved with a run of 4.539 seconds. The Caterpillar Top Fuel dragster remains ninth in the Top Fuel field.
After clocking a pass of 4.558 seconds at 325.30 mph on Thursday afternoon, the Top Fuel star posted a second solid lap in his Rob Flynn-tuned Caterpillar dragster. Fuller drove the yellow-and-black car to a pass of 4.539 at 327.51 to improve on Thursday’s effort. Fuller remains ninth in the order with two qualifying sessions remaining.
“We’ve made two consistent runs and that’s good,” Fuller said. “It threw the (blower) belt off down track. We’re sneaking up on the tune-up of this CAT car. It’s not always who is the fastest, but most consistent and we learned that last year.”
Top Fuel qualifying continues Saturday afternoon with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (PT) at the historic Southern California drag strip. Fuller qualified second last season at Pomona with a run of 4.481 seconds.
